DANCEPLAY
A DANCE PROGRAM FOR KIDS WITH DISABILITIES
ENSURING ALL CHILDREN DISCOVER FUN, FREEDOM AND EXPRESSION THROUGH DANCE

A WORD FROM PHIA ON THE DANCEPLAY DIFFERENCE...

HI! I'M PHIA, AND I'M THE CREATOR OF DANCEPLAY

Danceplay is a program designed specifically for neurodiverse kids, and kids with other disabilities. In my 9+ years of teaching dance, I have had the opportunity to work with kids with various disabilities in both individual and group settings, from autism and ADHD, to Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, Deafness and more.
I myself am a neurodiverse person, and this can make the average dance class a little bit more stressful. Often, there’s loud music, large groups of people I don’t know very well (if at all), no visible schedule, quick transitions between exercises… the list goes on and on!
I developed Danceplay to ensure every child, no matter their ability, can enjoy dance. Dancing has been proven to have so many benefits for our physical, social, emotional and cognitive health.
Whilst we have a thoroughly researched and well-informed syllabus, we tailor each class to the student/s in them and their needs. We:
-
Adapt the sensory input the child receives
-
Give each child autonomy in class to make their own decisions
-
Use props and social stories to create engaging lessons
-
Have a visual schedule on display at all times, and
-
Incorporate any homework they may have from school or their support team- all the while making sure they have fun and find freedom and expression in movement!
